This story begins in the early 1900s with a classic craftsman house on the Spokane River. Today, however, we seem to have a very different way of living: we need larger garages, main level master living, and usually more than a couple bathrooms. After examining the ability to remodel the house and even exploring moving the house, we elected to reuse elements from the old house and rebuild in the same classic style as the original. In addition to the many details and character nuances that we lifted from the original house, we salvaged parts of the stone foundation to rebuild the fireplace and reused many of the light fixtures as well. Like many view properties, we had to be selective of which spaces have the street view and which have the river view. Of all the rooms in the 4400 sf house, only the bathrooms, one bedroom and office do not have a view to the large backyard falling away to the river. We sincerely hope this house lasts for many generations as well and can be adapted to how we might be living a hundred years from now.
