Merging the architecture and the site is always our goal for our projects. The client took this to an extreme as they collected all the stone for the project directly from the site which is carried throughout the house at the fireplace, wine cellar and on the exterior walls and exterior seating. The client also asked us for a minimal impact design to preserve the natural landscape as much as possible. The resulting project is a modest sized home of spectacular drama and character artfully placed within the context of the site.
While taking full advantage of the 180 degree views of Lake Coeur d’Alene, the house is located against the hillside and hardly noticeable from the lake below. Inside, the 2700 square feet includes the common living areas and the main bedroom suite on the ground level and two bedrooms and another bathroom upstairs. Additionally, the detached garage has a 600 square foot lofted guest suite. The concrete radiant floor heating, natural oak cabinets, and wood ceilings give the interior a very comfortable ambiance.
